The Anniversary of the Unsolved Murder of “The Black Dahlia”

*Given the age of the high-profile case and extensive details surrounding it, this will just serve as a brief reminder that another anniversary has come (and gone) regarding it.
Today marks 74 years since the body of a murder victim, Elizabeth Short, also known as “The Black Dahlia,” was found in a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California in a notably horrific state. Sadly, to this day, in spite of how truly well-known her case has become since, her murder remains unsolved as far as who exactly was behind it and why.
Who was Elizabeth?
Before she posthumously became better known as the “The Black Dahlia” thanks, in part, to the media at the time, Elizabeth was an American woman who was a native to Boston. The early years of her life were spent in Medford, Massachusetts, and Florida before she later relocated to California, where her father resided. Although it is commonly believed that Elizabeth aspired to become an actress in life, she evidently had no acting credits or jobs during her time in Los Angeles.
The Name
The term “Black Dahlia,” in reference to Short, apparently came to be after the owner of a drugstore in Long Beach, California told reporters that she was given that name by male customers. It was also born from the media’s habit at the time of giving names to particularly sensational crimes.
Following the gruesome discovery, the subsequent investigation into her case by the Los Angeles Police Department produced more than 150 suspects, though, to date, no one has ever been arrested for her murder nearly 75 years since it occurred.
Even before all the years that have passed since the crime, without any answers, the details, too extensive to do it justice here, surrounding the cruel murder remains one of the most brutal, culturally enduring, and notorious unsolved cases in, arguably, the world.
Hopefully, one day, someone will be able to provide the key to closing this case for good.
